dogfuck, sapevans, wrong worshippers, and friend @ peppermint haus 9/16/23

OK. this show was a while ago -- it's october 1st as i'm drafting this log up, and the show was on september 16th. oops! i'm a freshman in college and things are cray. can't believe i already made it to october, btw. anyway -- i will not let a show go unlogged!

before this show, i'd never been to peppermint haus. i think they're kinda a new venue. it's a house (duh) out on clay st, right by the ever-so-lovely, ever-so-beloved clay market. had to go thru an alley to get to the backyard, which contributed to this nice little secluded feel since you couldn't see clay st itself from the yard.

i'll be honest and say that i did not get to pay much attention to sapevans or dogfuck since i was busy catching up with some friends, but the energy was fun and there was a lotta dancing. dogfuck and sapevans also weren't really my thing, but i appreciated them nonetheless. i think part of the beauty of houseshows is that you always end up with a weird variety of genres playing every night. anyway, i really tuned in when wrong worshippers started playing, which is also around when the yard really started to fill up.

of course, they put on a great show as always. it was exciting because it was their first show since the school year started, since the singer is now dorming at shenandoah; despite the distance wrong worshippers has no plans of splitting up. there were a couple awesome standout moments in the 9/16 show. for one, they played a song off their yet unreleased second album, which of course went hard; that album's gonna be crazy when it comes out, i know it. they also played a cover of an OLIVIA RODRIGO song ?! i have no clue which song because idk much about olivia rodrigo, but i know their cover sounded awesome. and at the end, they even got summoned back by the crowd's chants of ENCORE!

the crowd at this show was great. admittedly, there was some booze and such going around, which always serves to lighten up a group. but the crowd was packed in tight, dancing and moshing; what i like about house shows is that there always seems to be a little less embarassment about moshing and such than at a more established venue. anyway, the crowd was all fired up and ready to go when orbweaver started.

unfortunately i didn't get to see a lot of the start of orbweaver's set cuz i was helping wrong worshippers pack up. which is a shame, because what i did see of orbweaver was AWESOME. i'd never seen them before. i caught the last couple songs and got to participate in the mini wall of death, etc, which was great fun. and of course they got summoned back to stage too!!

now that i finally live in richmond proper and don't have to drive a half an hour to go to all the shows i'm definitely gonna be checking out more shows, and i can't wait. the scene is looking up, i think!
